Retshego Open Day Draws Strong Community Support

Retshego Community Development Centre successfully hosted its Open Day at the Bela-Bela Multipurpose Centre on 14 August 2026, bringing together learners, youth, job seekers, parents and community members for a day of education, empowerment and opportunity.

The Open Day created a valuable platform for the community to connect directly with institutions and organisations offering education, career guidance, entrepreneurship support, skills development and social services. The event was supported by a wide range of partners who helped make the day meaningful and impactful.

Partners and supporters included the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits), University of Pretoria, University of Johannesburg, Waterberg TVET College, MANCOSA, Council for Geoscience, Small Enterprise Development and Finance Agency (SEDFA), Department of Employment and Labour, Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC), CHITI College, Safe Hub, loveLife, Department of Social Development, Mokgobu Attorneys, FP&M SETA, Lindiwe Sanitary Pads, Retshego Empress, Shantella Volts and Bits Internet Cafe, among others.

Learners and community members were assisted with university and college applications, career guidance, CV revamps, job portal creation, document scanning and certification, as well as access to important information on education, employment, entrepreneurship and personal development.

A key highlight of the event was the dignity support extended to young people. More than 700 sanitary pads and oral hygiene products were distributed, helping to promote dignity, health and confidence among learners and ensuring that no child is left behind.

The Open Day demonstrated the importance of bringing opportunities and services directly to communities. Through the support of participating organisations, attendees were able to engage with institutions, ask questions and receive practical assistance that could help shape their educational, career and personal development journeys.

Retshego Community Development Centre expressed its sincere appreciation to every partner, sponsor, exhibitor, volunteer and community member who contributed to the success of the event.

The success of the Open Day reflects the power of partnership in creating opportunities and changing lives within our communities.

Education. Opportunity. Dignity. Empowerment.
