Retshego Community Development Centre, in collaboration with Lindiwe Sanitary Pads, has successfully implemented the “Every Cycle, Every Dream, Every Queen” Dignity Campaign at Raeleng Secondary School, where more than 400 sanitary pads, together with other essential items, were distributed to learners.
The campaign forms part of Retshego Community Development Centre’s ongoing commitment to promoting dignity, education, health and equal opportunity for young people within local communities.
The initiative focused strongly on menstrual dignity and the importance of ensuring that young girls are not disadvantaged, embarrassed or forced to miss school because they do not have access to sanitary products.
For many families, the cost of menstrual products remains an additional financial burden. In communities already affected by unemployment, poverty and limited access to resources, menstrual dignity can easily become an overlooked issue despite its direct impact on a learner’s confidence, participation and education.
Through the partnership with Lindiwe Sanitary Pads, the campaign provided practical support while also creating an opportunity to encourage girls to value their education, believe in their potential and understand that their menstrual cycle should never become a barrier to achieving their dreams.
The campaign carried the message:
“Every Cycle. Every Dream. Every Queen.”
However, Retshego Community Development Centre believes that meaningful youth development must be inclusive.
Recognising that no child should be left behind, boys at Raeleng Secondary School were also included in the activation and received oral hygiene products. This ensured that while the campaign addressed the specific dignity needs of girls, boys were also able to benefit from an initiative promoting health, hygiene and personal wellbeing.
This inclusive approach reflects the Centre’s belief that supporting one group should never mean excluding another.
The Dignity Campaign is particularly important within communities where some young people continue to experience challenges accessing basic personal-care products. These may appear to be small everyday items, but access to them can influence a young person’s confidence, self-esteem, school attendance and overall sense of dignity.
Retshego Community Development Centre believes that dignity should never be viewed as a privilege.
Every learner deserves the opportunity to attend school with confidence and to focus on learning without worrying about whether they have access to basic hygiene products.
The Centre expressed its appreciation to Lindiwe Sanitary Pads for partnering on the initiative and making it possible to reach more than 400 girls with sanitary products.
Retshego Community Development Centre also thanked the leadership, educators and learners of Raeleng Secondary School for warmly welcoming the initiative and creating an environment in which the campaign could make a meaningful impact.
The success of the activation demonstrates what can be achieved when community organisations, businesses and schools work together around a shared objective.
Retshego Community Development Centre intends to continue mobilising partnerships and resources to expand dignity-focused initiatives to more schools and communities.
The organisation is also encouraging businesses, institutions and individuals to support future campaigns through donations of sanitary products, toiletries, oral hygiene products and other essentials that can improve the wellbeing of vulnerable learners.
The message emerging from the campaign is clear:
A girl should never miss an opportunity because of her period, and no child should be left behind because they lack access to basic necessities.
Through initiatives such as “Every Cycle, Every Dream, Every Queen,” Retshego Community Development Centre continues working towards communities where young people are supported not only to remain in school, but to pursue their dreams with dignity and confidence.
Every Cycle. Every Dream. Every Queen.
